TyQuan is one of our worst behaved sixth graders. He does absolutely no work and anytime you talk to him, he has a huge attitude. We'd been calling home frequently to tallk with his mother. When I told her he was cursing in my class and not doing any work, she said, "Okay, well he can't stay past 3pm for detention" and hung up. That was weeks ago...nothing changed.
He got suspended last week and was told he could not come back to school without his parent meeting with us. Yesterday we all sat down for a conference and expressed our concern that TyQuan was failing every single class. After everyone had went around and basically said the same thing, TyQuan's mother says:
"I had to use gas money to drive all the way up here just to listen to you people talk?"

well, at least you know where the attitude comes from. so sad, really.
Wow.
Did the meeting end after that? What's going to happen to him?
This is totally off subject, but you are the first person I thought of when my niece told me this story recently (my niece lives in Idaho, pretty close to Napolean Dynamite territory, so maybe it makes sense...). I thought of you because of your Name Game post from November 2007.
A parent came to the school to complain that she and her daughter were tired of the daughter's name never being pronounced correctly by other students and school officials. Her daughter's name was La-la.
Wait for it....
Her daughter's name is prnounced 'la dash la'.
carole
Carole, NO! That can't be right. No, no, no. LOL!
